In 2012, Carolyne Tilford, a staff member at Pewee Valley Veterinary Center (PVVC), wanted to do something to recognize the heroic military war dogs serving overseas.

She approached the owners of the PVVC, Dr. Manta Loster and Dr. Tanya Ross, with the concept of “Joy to the Woof.” The goal was to support the military dogs by sending items specifically for them overseas.

Graciously, the owners agreed and “Joy to the Woof” was founded.

Joy to the Woof started as a program dedicated to sending blessings boxes to Military Working dogs in Afghanistan and Iraq. With all of the support, we were able to purchase Kevlar Booties, Cooling Coats, Protective Eye Gear (Doggles) as well as provide flea preventatives, hygiene items, many toys, and treats to keep these dogs healthy and comfortable!

As the needs of our military dogs change, we also are finding the best ways to help support them. One of our efforts has teamed us with an organization to support bringing these heroes home and either reunited with their original partners, or finding great forever homes.

There is still a great need for both active and retired military canines — we are striving to help as many as we can.
